Resolution on Afro-Arab Co-Operation


CM/Res.770 (XXXIV) RESOLUTION ON AFRO-ARAB CO-OPERATION

The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its Thirty-Fourth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 6 to 15 February 1980,


After carefully considering the Report of the Secretary-General on Afro-Arab Co- operation,


Recalling Resolution CM/Res.721 (XXXIII) Rev.1 adopted by the Council of Ministers in its Thirty-Third Ordinary Session in Monrovia, Liberia from 6 to 20 July, 1979,


Reaffirming its belief in and commitment to the basic principles of Afro-Arab Co- operation as defined by the First Afro-Arab Summit:


  1. TAKES NOTE of the Secretary-General’s Report on Afro -Arab Co- operation;


  1. REAFFIRMS its constant readiness to promote, strengthen and consolidate the noble ideas of Afro-Arab Co-operation in the supreme interest of the African and Arab peoples;


  1. REAFFIRMS furthermore the principle according to which all OAU Member States are entitled to be invited to and participate in all the meetings on Afro-Arab Co-operation;


  1. REQUESTS that consultations be held immediately between both Secretariats, with a view to fixing the dates and venues of:


    1. the Fifth Session of the Standing Commission,

    1. the Fifth Session of the Joint Afro-Arab, Ministerial conference,



    1. the Second Session of the Afro-Arab Summit Conference.



  1. REQUESTS the OAU Secretary-General to undertake consultations with his counterpart of the Arab League with a view to drawing up a Joint Afro-Arab programme of activities and meetings to be communicated to all Member States and requests both Organizations to follow, as much as possible, the common calendar and programme thus drawn up.
