RESOLUTION ON THE CO-ORDINATION OF THE ACTIVITIES OF OAU SPECIALIZED

AGENCIES



The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its Thirty-fourth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 6 to 15 February 1980,


Considering that Article 2, paragraph 2 of the OAU Charter, stipulates that Member States co-ordinate and harmonize their general policies in all fields including economic co-operation, and development, culture and social affairs,


Recalling the relevant resolutions approved by the OAU Heads of State and Government regarding the establishment of the OAU Specialized Agencies,


Recalling Resolution CM/672 (XXXI) which called for a report on the activities of OAU Specialized Agencies,


Referring to the Report of the Secretary-General on the difficulties caused by the Specialized Agencies in the co-ordination of their activities,


Conscious of the necessity to co-ordinate the activities of the OAU Specialized Agencies for the achievement of overall development and progress in Africa:


  1. REQUESTS the Secretary-General of the OAU to:

    1. Follow and co-ordinate the activities of the Specialized Agencies of the OAU in accordance with its general policy;

    2. Periodically convene, a meeting of the heads of the Specialized OAU Agencies to better co-ordinate and harmonize the activities of these institutions;

    3. Submit periodically to the Council of Ministers an appropriate report on the activities of the said Specialized Agencies;

  1. INVITES the OAU Specialized Agencies to co-operate with the OAU Secretary-General and periodically submit to him reports on their activities.
