Resolution on Disaster in Madagascar


CM/Res.908 (XXXVIII) RESOLUTION ON DISASTER IN MADAGASCAR

The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Thirty- eighth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 22 to 28 February, 1982,


Taking into account the fact that the Democratic Republic of Madagascar suffered severe losses as a result of the Cyclones: Benedicte, Electra, Fida and Gabrielle,


Considering the fact that thousands of people were rendered homeless,



Recognizing the fact that the Democratic Republic of Madagascar is currently experiencing a situation of national disaster,


Considering the need to show solidarity with the people of Madagascar,



Considering that joint assistance from the international community would enable the Democratic Republic of Madagascar to alleviate the consequences of the present national disaster:


  1. REQUESTS all countries in the international community and particularly Member States of the OAU to offer effective aid to the Democratic Republic of Madagascar:


  1. EMPHASISES the urgency of this material assistance in view of the critical situation the people of Madagascar are experiencing.
