RESOLUTION ON SOLIDARITY WITH THE VICTIMS OF THE CYCLONE (DOMOINA) AND OF THE FLOODS IN MOZAMBIQUE

AND SWAZILAND



The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Fortieth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 27 February to 5 March 1984,


Having carefully taken note of the report and the appeal of the Secretary-General

a.i. on the disastrous situation resulting from the Domoina Cyclone and the floods in Mozambique and Swaziland,


Having also taken note of the statement made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Mozambique on the floods and drought in his country which have already caused hundreds of deaths and heavy material loss,


Having in mind the spirit of unity and solidarity which have always guided the OAU:


  1. EXPRESSES its TOTAL and FRATERNAL SOLIDARITY with the victims of the Domoina Cyclone and floods in Mozambique and Swaziland;


  1. APPEALS to all members of the international community in general and of the OAU in particular to give urgent material and financial assistance to the peoples and governments of the People’s Republic of Mozambique and the Kingdom of Swaziland.
