Resolution on Intergrated Fouta Djallon Project


CM/Res.946 (XL) RESOLUTION ON INTEGRATED FOUTA DJALLON PROJECT

The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its Fortieth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 27 February to 5 March 1984,


Having studied the report of the Secretary-General a.i. concerning the project for the Integrated Development of the Fouta Djallon Highlands,


Recalling its Resolution CM/Res.756 (XXXIII), Rev. 1 and CM/Res.811 by the Thirty-third and Thirty-fifth Sessions of the OAU Council of Ministers,


Considering the progress made so far with regards to the implementation of the Fouta Djallon Project by the OAU Secretariat, UNDP, UNSO, FAO and UNESCO,


Noting with appreciation the commendable efforts and the positive contribution made by the Government of the People’s Revolutionary Republic of Guinea, to facilitate and accelerate the implementation of this very important project,


Convinced of the advantages which would accrue from the realization of the Fouta Djallon Project for the Development of the West African Sub-region in particular, and Africa in general:


  1. ADOPTS the Experts’ Report and all the recommendations contained in the Document CM/1214 (XL) Rev.1;


  1. APPROVES the establishment in Labe, People’s Revolutionary Republic of Guinea of the International Co-ordination Office for the Fouta Djallon Projects as an in-put of the OAU;

  1. AUTHORIZES the Secretary-General to sign the Project Document so as to enable immediate implementation of the project by UNDP, UNSO, FAO and other interested international organizations;


  1. FURTHER AUTHORIZES the Secretary-General to formalize and strengthen co-operation with International Organizations, specially UNDP, UNSO, FAO, UNESCO and UNEP which are parties to the Fouta Djallon Project.
