Resolution on Afro-Arab Co-Operation


CM/Res.961 (XLI) RESOLUTION ON AFRO-ARAB CO-OPERATION

The Council of Ministers of the organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- first Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 25 February to 4 March 1985,


Having closely examined the report of the Secretary-General a.i. on Afro-Arab Co- operation (CM/1275 (XLI);


Recalling the contents of Resolution CM/Res.933 (XL) of the Fortieth Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of the OAU held at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 27 February to 5 March 1984,


Bearing always in mind the spirit of the Declaration and Programme of Action as well as the other decisions and resolutions adopted by the First Afro-Arab Summit held in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, in March 1977,


Reaffirming its total commitment and total readiness to deploy all efforts with a view to constantly reinforcing Afro-Arab Co-operation in all the areas defined by the First Afro-Arab Summit of Cairo,


Convinced of the need to review the normal functioning of the organs of the Afro- Arab Co-operation in accordance with the timetables defined by the First Afro- Arab Summit of Cairo:


  1. ENDORSES the recommendations of the Seventh Session of the Standing Commission of Afro-Arab Co-operation held at Tripoli, People’s Socialist Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, from 2 to 4 August 1984;


  1. CONGRATULATES the two Secretaries-General of the OAU and the League of Arab States for the continuing efforts they have deployed with a view to implementing the aims and objectives of Afro-Arab Co-operation;

  1. ENCOURAGES the two Secretaries-General of the 0AU and the Arab League to pursue their efforts so as to strengthen Afro-Arab Co-operation within the framework of the implementation of the Lagos Plan of Action and the Aman Strategy and thus contributing in ensuring the complementarity of thus contributing in ensuring the complementarity of the economies of the two regions;


  1. REQUESTS the Secretary-General of the OAU, in collaboration with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, to undertake all necessary consultations so as to ensure the adherence to the programme of work defined for the meetings of the organs of Afro-Arab Co-operation;


  1. REQUESTS the Secretary-General of the OAU, in collaboration with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Member States, to extend all necessary assistance to host governments for the holding in April 1985 of the First Session of the Joint Afro-Arab Ministerial Conference in Tripoli, People’s Socialist Libyan Arab Jamahiriya and the Eight and Ninth Sessions of the Standing Commission for Afro-Arab Co-operation scheduled to convene respectively at Damascus (Arab Republic of Syria) and at Ougadougou (People’s Democratic Repu blic of Burkina Faso) on the dates to be determined after due consultations;


  1. REQUESTS the Secretary-General of the OAU, in collaboration with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, to take the necessary measures with a view to finalizing the two studies respectively devoted to the promotion of trade exchanges between the African countries and the Arab countries and the promotion and guarantee of Afro-Arab Investments.
