RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE CANDIDATURE FOR THE POST OF THE UNITED NATIONS

HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR REFUGEES



The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- first Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 25 February to 4 March 1985.


Having taken cognizance of the statement made by the Head of the Egyptian Delegation on the candidature of Dr Boutros GHALI, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the post of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,


Having heard the statement of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mali on the need for Africa to support this candidature,


Conscious of the importance of the post for Africa, at a time when more than half of the world refugee population is composed of Africans and when these refugees need aid and assistance which the international community provides through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees,


Convinced that the time has come for an African to fill this post:



DECIDES to recommend for approval the candidature of Dr Boutros GHALI, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Egypt to the post of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to all Governments of OAU Member States and to the 21st Summit of the Organization.
