RESOLUTION ON THE DRAFT CO-OPERATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE OAU AND THE LEGAUE OF ARAB STATES IN THE FIELD OF SANCTIONS AGAINST THE TWO RACIST REGIMES OF SOUTH AFRICA AND ISRAEL
The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- first Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 25 February to 4 March 1985,
Having considered the follow-up report submitted by the Secretary-General a.i. in Document CM/1270 (XLI) as well as its Annex dealing with the Agreement between the OAU and the League of Arab States in the field of Sanctions against the two racist regimes of South Africa and Israel,
Convinced that this Draft Agreement aims at strengthening the bonds of solidarity between the African and the Arab peoples pursuant to the Political Declarations of the First Afro-Arab Summit Conference held in Cairo in March 1977,
Reaffirming its determination to promote and strengthen all the structures set up to intensify co-operation between the two Secretariats of the OAU and Arab League within the context of the objectives and guidelines of the First Afro-Arab Summit Conference held in Cairo in March 1977;
Recalling its resolution CM/940 (XL) by which it approved the General Agreement on Co-operation between the OAU and the Arab League,
Noting that the Draft Agreement in question was adopted by the Council of the League of Arab States and by the Standing Commission at its Seventh Ordinary Session held in Tripoli, Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya from 2 to 4 August 1984:
TAKES NOTE of the report contained in Doc. CM/1270 (XLI) submitted by the OAU Secretary-General a.i.;
CONGRATULATES the two Secretaries-General of the OAU and the League of Arab States on the efforts they have deployed in co-ordinating the activities which are of common interest to the two Organizations in the field of Afro-Arab Co-operation;
APPROVES the Draft Co-operation Agreement between the OAU and the Arab League in the field of Sanctions against the racist regimes of South Africa and Israel contained in the Annex of Doc. CM/1270 (XLI);
AUTHORIZES the OAU Secretary-General to undertake the necessary consultations with his counterpart of the League of Arab States for the signing of this Agreement.
