RESOLUTION ON THE MEMORANDUM OF CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THE ORGANIZATION OF AFRICAN UNITY AND THE INTERNATIONAL LIVESTOCK CENTRE FOR AFRICA


The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- first Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 25 February to 4 March 1985,


Having heard the report of the Secretary-General on the proposed Memorandum of Co-operation between the Organization of African Unity and the International Livestock Centre for Africa (IL/CIPEA),


Recognizing the importance of Resolution AHG/Res.1 (II) Rev.3 in which the Heads of State and Government of the OAU adopted the Lagos Plan of Action,


Recognizing the commitment of the Heads of State and Government of the 20th

Summit meeting of the OAU to giving top priority to agriculture,



Recognizing the urgent need for strengthening existing national, regional and international research institutions so as to quickly solve problems raised by accelerated agricultural development,


Desirous of establishing an effective co-operation within the respective scopes of competence of the OAU and ILCA to enable them to attain their common objectives in the field of economic and social development pursuant to the Charter of the OAU and the mandate of ILCA:


  1. APPROVES the Memorandum of Co-operation between the OAU and ILCA;


  1. AUTHORIZES the Secretary-General to sign it as soon as possible.
