RESOLUTION ON AFRICA-WIDE BIOLOGICAL CONTROL SERVICE ABC 5 (JP 38)


The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- first Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 25 February to 4 March 1985:


  1. TAKES NOTE of the research carried out to control the vegetable pests of cassava affecting this crop in several Member States;


  1. TAKES NOTE of the limited application of the research results in some Member States with beneficial effects;


  1. EXPRESSES ITS APPRECIATION to the following organizations which have funded research and also supported the field application of the results in Member States BKAWIKORD of Austria, BMZ and GTZ of Federal Republic of Germany, DCA of Switzerland, IFAD of Rome, USAID of Washington, IDRC of Canada, EMBRAPA of Brazil, CIAT of Colombia and FAO of Rome;


  1. URGES the International donors and agencies to continue their financial and technical support for the eradication of these pests in collaboration with the OAU/STRC/IAPSC and in compliance with the OAU Phytosanitary Convention and the International Conventions;


  1. RECOMMENDS the establishment of an African Biological Control Service for the Control and Eradication of Vegetable Pests in all Member States.
