Resolution on African Pharmacopoea


CM/Res.976 (XLI) RESOLUTION ON AFRICAN PHARMACOPOEA

The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- first Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 25 February to 4 March 1985,


Considering the importance of traditional medicine in the delivery of health care in Africa,


Realizing that the ideal goal of health for all by the year 2000 can be achieved if traditional medicine is developed and encouraged:


  1. URGES the Inter-African Committee of Pharmacopoea (Traditional Medicine) to continue to intensify its work on Volume II of the African Pharmacopoea;


  1. EXPRESSES ITS APPRECIATION to WHO Africa for its support to the OAU/STRC and its Inter-African Committee on Traditional Medicine and Pharmacopoea for the first volume of the African Pharmacopoea;


  1. URGES the WHO Africa to support the OAU/STRC in the preparation and publication of Volume II of the African Pharmacopoea;


  1. NOTES the achievements of the OAU sponsored scholar in acquiring the higher degree of Masters in Philosophy of the University of Nigeria in the field of Pharmacognory Traditional Medicine;


  1. REQUESTS the OAU/STRC to continue its efforts in the area of research into Traditional Medicine and Ethnobotanical Surveys of Member States;

  1. COMMENDS the efforts of OAU/STRC in the production of scholars in this field of Traditional Medicine and requests African Institutions capable of training scholars and technicians to communicate their interest to the OAU/STRC Executive Secretariat.
