Resolution on Co-Operation Agreement Between the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and the UN Centre for Human Settlement (Habitat)

RESOLUTION ON CO-OPERATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE ORGANIZATION OF AFRICAN UNITY (OAU) AND THE UN CENTRE FOR HUMAN SETTLEMENT (HABITAT)

The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- first Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 25 February to 4 March 1985,

Having examined the Memorandum of understanding between the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and the UN Centre for Human Settlement (HABITAT), Doc. CM/1283 (XLI),

Considering the need for the OAU and Habitat to implement some specific programmes on Human Settlement,

Recalling Resolution AHG/Res.117 (XIX) by which the 19^th Assembly of Heads of State and Government endorsed the UN General Assembly Resolution 37/221 designating 1987 as the International Year of Shelter for the Homeless and requested the Secretary-General of the OAU to co-operate with the Executive Director of the UN Centre for Human Settlement (HABITAT) to ensure the full realization of the goals and objectives of the International Year within the African region,

Conscious of the necessity for international co-operation in furtherance of socio- economic development,

Aware that such co-operation would enhance and sustain the general well-being of the African peoples:

1. APPROVES the Co-operation Agreement between the OAU and the UN Centre for Human Settlement (HABITAT);
