RESOLUTION ON THE CONVENING OF AN ANNUAL MEETING OF AFRICAN MINISTERS OF HEALTH
The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- first Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 25 February to 4 March 1985,
Considering that the growth of nations depends on the sound health and well-being of their peoples,
Considering that sound health spearheads economic development as noted in the Lagos Plan of Action,
Desirous of fulfilling the objective set forth by the theme: “Health for all by the Year 2000”,
Considering that it is necessary for Africa to adopt a common stand on health matters before the WHO Annual General Assembly,
Desirous of ensuring that the health needs of the Continent are adequately taken care of by the WHO:
DECIDES to recommend to the Assembly of Heads of State and Government the convening of an annual meeting of African Ministers of Health of Member States for consultation with a view to harmonizing the African stand on the agenda items of the WHO General Assembly and other matters of interest to the African continent in the field Health;
FURTHER RECOMMENDS that this meeting for consultation is held in Addis Ababa, Headquarters of the Organization of African Unity, before each session of the WHO General Assembly.
