Resolution on Informatics in Development


CM/Res.1032 (XLIII) RESOLUTION ON INFORMATICS IN DEVELOPMENT

The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- third Ordinary Session, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 25 February to 4 March 1986,


Considering that the third industrial revolution centres mainly around informatics, a feature of society,


Anxious that Africa should participate in this scientific and technological progress which is the third industrial revolution,


Considering that an effective and generalized use of informatics will help in the implementation of the priority programme for the economic recovery of Africa:


  1. TAKES NOTE of the report presented by Cote d’Ivoire and proposals for the formulation of an African Informatics Plan;


  1. REQUESTS the General Secretariat of the OAU in co-operation with the Executive Secretariat of the Economic Commission for Africa, in the context of the Inter-Governmental Committee on Science, Technology and Development to draw up, if necessary, with the help of competent external bodies, an African Informatics Plan for submission to the Council of Ministers;


  1. INVITES the Inter-Governmental Committee on Science, Technology and Development and the Permanent Steering Committee to take the necessary steps for the results of the work proposed in the preceding paragraph to be

submitted at the latest to the 45th Session of the Council of Ministers for adoption.
