RESOLUTION ON THE PROCEDURE FOR PROCESSING APPLICATIONS FOR OBSERVER STATUS
The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its Forty- third Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 25 February to 4 March 1986,
Conscious of the importance that the Organization attaches to the granting of Observer Status,
Deploring the inadequate manner in which the Secretariat has been processing and presenting applications for Observer Status with the OAU:
REQUESTS the Secretariat to improve the processing and presentation of such applications, and in particular to submit:
an analysis of the elements of each application, certifying that it conforms to the Organization’s established criteria for the granting of Observer States;
a legal opinion containing an overall evaluation of each case;
REQUESTS associations applying for Observer Status to provide to the Secretariat all relevant documents in sufficient numbers in all the working languages of the OAU.
