RESOLUTION ON THE SPECIAL EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND FOR DROUGHT AND FAMINE IN AFRICA
The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity meeting in its Forty- fourth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 21 to 26 July 1986,
Having examined the Report of the Secretary-General on the Special Emergency Fund for Drought and Famine in Africa (Document CM/1382 (XLIV),
Recalling Resolution AHG/Res.133 (XX) of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the OAU by which the Special Fund was established, and resolutions CM/Res.962 (XLI) and CM/Res.1006 (XLII) on the modes of the operation of the Fund,
Convinced of the need to intensify the campaign to inform and alert OAU Member States and the international public opinion in general so as to ensure a greater mobilization of resources for the Fund to enable it accomplish its task effectively:
TAKES NOTE of the report of the Secretary-General;
APPEALS to those Member States which have not yet paid their voluntary contributions to the Fund, to do so, and to those which have already pledged, to honor their commitments;
CALLS UPON the Secretary-General and the Policy Committee of the Fund to intensify the campaign to inform and alert international public opinion so as to ensure a greater mobilization of the resources of the Fund.
