RESOLUTION ON IFAD SPECIAL PROGRAMME FOR AFRICA



The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its Forty-sixth Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 20 to 25 July 1987,


Recalling Resolution CM/Res.1060 (XLIV) adopted at its Forty-fourth Ordinary Session on IFAD Special Programme for Africa,


Recalling further the follow-up measures of the Resolution adopted by the United Nations Special Session on the Critical Situation in Africa,


Considering its request to the international community to increase financial support to IFAD’s Special Programme for Africa as a concrete follow -up measure to the UN Special Session for Africa so as to attain the target of US $300 million fixed by its Resolution CM/Res.1060 (XLVI):


  1. EXPRESSES its APPRECIATION to the countries which have responded to its appeal by giving financial assistance to the programme, thus enabling it to mobilize immediately US $220 million for the African countries affected by drought and desertification;


  1. APPEALS to the international community especially the industrialized countries which have not yet pledged their contribution to the IFAD Special Programme to accord the necessary resources to the Programme to enable it to meet the target of US $300 million as early as possible.
