RESOLUTION ON GRANTING OAU OBSERVER STATUS TO THE AFRICAN NETWORK FOR THE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION AGAINST CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT (ANPPACAN)



The Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity, meeting in its Fifty- second Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 3 to 8 July 1990,


Having considered Document CM/1626 (LII) relating to the application for Observer Status submitted by the Africa Network for the Prevention and Protection Against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPACAN),


Considering the need to protect the African child against all sorts of violence, neglect and abuse,


Convinced that, in this regard, it is in the interest of governments to cooperate with non - governmental organizations dealing with childhood problems,


Considering that in this field ANPPACAN has the necessary experience and that it is ready to make Member States benefit from its experience,


Noting that the application submitted by ANPPACAN meets the criteria for granting OAU Observer Status as adopted by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government:


  1. NOTES WITH SATISFACTION the report of the Secretary-General on the application of OAU Observer Status submitted by the African Network for the Prevention and Protection Against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPACAN), Document CM/1626 (LII);


  1. DECIDES to grant OAU Observer Status Category “C” to the African Network for Prevention and Protection Against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPACAN).
