Recommendations on the situation in Libya

The Pan-African Parliament,DEEPLY CONCERNED by the conflict situation in Libya;TAKING NOTE of the volatile situation in Libya;RECALLING the Report of its Fact-Finding Mission to Tripoli (Libya) in June 2011 which is based on its Resolution adopted during the Fourth Ordinary Session of the Second Parliament in May 2011;ACKNOWLEDGING that the best solution for Libya is to fulfil the legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people to Democracy, Good Governance and Respect for Human Rights, Achieve Sustainable Peace and Preserve Unity and Territorial Integrity of the Country;RECOGNISING that Libya is a Sovereign State;
THEREFORE RECOMMENDS:
1.An immediate cessation of war in conformity with the AU roadmap;
2.An urgent need for national reconciliation through a mechanism which incorporates the interest of all Libyans in order to reinforce national unity;
3.That Libyans should decide their future democratically;
4.That the African Union should work with relevant organizations to ensure that rules and regulations relating to protection of migrant workers are adhered to;
5.That the African Union should encourage Libya to be a Member of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
