Recommendations on the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights

The Pan-African Parliament calls:On all members of the African Union:TO RATIFY the 1998 Protocol relating to the African Court on Human Rights and, at the same time, to make the appropriate declaration, as provided for in Article 34(6) of the Protocol on the development of a culture of the respect of human and peoples’ right on the African continent relating to access by individuals and NGOs to justice;TO TRANSLATE political will into action in favour of an independent continental Court by signing the Protocol establishing the African Court on Justice and Human Rights, like the merging of the current African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Arusha and the African Union Court of Justice based in Addis Ababa, with jurisdiction over criminal cases.
