Resolution of congratulations to H.E. Thabo Mbeki, President of the Republic of South Africa on his success in achieving a peace agreement between the warring parties in Cote D’Ivoire

The Pan-African Parliament,1.RECALLING the tragedy of the civil war that was started in la Cote d’Ivoire in 2002 and the attempts made by several mediators within and without Africa at forging peace deals without success;2.FURTHER RECALLING that the warring parties over that period failed to honor provisions of earlier Accords which were signed by themselves, and thereby causing more hardships to the citizens of that country;3.NOTING the efforts and the manner in which H.E Thabo Mbeki, the President of the Republic of South Africa, conducted the mediation and facilitated the negotiation and signing of the Pretoria Peace Accord on 6 April 2005 wherein all the warring parties of Cote D’Ivore solemnly declared the immediate and final cessation of all hostilities and the end of the war throughout the national territory;
THEREFORE RESOLVES to convey our heartiest congratulations to H.E President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa on his successful mediation of the conflict in Cote d’Ivoire and his personal commitment to peace in Africa.
