Resolution on the ratification of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance

The Pan-African Parliament resolves that:All Member states of PAP signs and ratify the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance. An approach to securing member states ratification of the Charter for 2010.Focused attention in securing local ownership and on encouraging local interaction on the Charter.A selection of member states should be targeted for ratification in 2010.A focused media and communication strategy must be developed.The development and distribution of ratification support kits, based on material that had already been developed by partner organizations.Arrangement of high level engagements with selected Heads of States for the ratification of the Charter.Targeted engagements with trade unions and religious organizations.Focused and targeted approach to popularizing the Charter with Human Rights Institutions in Africa.A high level seminar or public lecture on the Charter should be arranged.The possibility of having the 3th Session of PAP focus on the Charter as a theme should be explored and supported.A focused workshop with parliamentarians from selected member states should be held.Contact should be made with Regional Parliaments to secure the inclusion of the Charter as a topic for deliberations during the course of the year.
