Resolution on Environment and Human Settlement.


CM/Res.893 (XXXVII) RESOLUTION ON ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN SETTLEMENT

The Council of Ministers meeting in its Thirty-seventh Ordinary Session in Nairobi, Kenya from 15 - 26 June, 1981,


Having considered the report of the Secretary-General on Specialized Agencies contained in Document CM/1120 (XXXVII) Part IV,


Bearing in mind the provisions contained in the Lagos Plan of Action relating to Environment and Human Settlement:


  1. CALLS UPON all OAU Member States to effectively participate at the highest political levels in the sessions of both UNEP and UNCHS, especially in the special session of the Governing Council of UNEP due to be held in Nairobi in May 1982 so as to ensure that environmental and human settlement problems of Africa figure out prominently in the future programmes of international co-operation in these fields;


  1. CALLS UPON the OAU Secretary-General, in collaboration with the Executive Secretary of the ECA, and the Executive Directors of UNEP and HABITAT to explore possibilities of establishing regional institutions for environmental and human settlement training and education within Africa;


  1. REQUESTS the OAU Secretary-General, in collaboration with ECA and UNEP, to explore the possibilities of establishment a regional institution for environmental training and education within the African region as envisaged in decision 9/20 (D) of the Governing Council of UNEP;


  1. REQUESTS the OAU Secretary-General to report on the implementation of this resolution to the Thirty-ninth Session of OAU Council of Ministers.
